Photo Industry Veteran Takes Helm of Gura Gear

Ogden, UTAH (July 1, 2011) Gura Gear, makers of an innovative line of photo equipment bags, is pleased to announce that Gregory Schern has partnered with award-winning wildlife photographer Andy Biggs, founder of Gura, and will serve as the company’s new President. In naming Mr. Schern President, Gura continues its mission of becoming the premier manufacturer of travel gear for photographers and other individuals passionate about experiencing the world.

Mr. Schern is a proven entrepreneur with the skills necessary to lead Gura through its next phase of growth. Named one of Utah’s top young entrepreneurs by Utah Business magazine, Mr. Schern has the experience and passion for building successful brands, broadening distribution channels and assembling the resources needed for the successful expansion of Gura. He was the founder of Moab Paper, a leading developer of digital inkjet media. In a short period of time, Schern built Moab into a leading brand in the photographic marketplace. Mr. Schern will be charged with growing the company including the rolling out of new product offerings in 2011 and 2012.

“Gura has grown from a vision for the ultimate photo backpack designed to satisfy the needs of the world’s premier photographers,” noted Gura founder Andy Biggs. “The addition of Greg to our team will allow us to continue our robust growth while addressing the needs of our customers and partners. Greg brings a depth of experience with early-stage companies in the photographic industry and has an equal passion for image making and adventure travel.”

Biggs designed the original Kiboko to meet his demanding needs while on Safari in Africa. Since that time, Kiboko has become the standard for wildlife and landscape photographers being used on every continent and climate around the world. It has also quickly gained the attention of wedding, event, and adventure photographers. Gura continues to develop innovative solutions for traveling photographers and Mr. Schern’s addition will strengthen Gura’s ability to be responsive to customer’s needs.

The Kiboko bag is the first design from the Gura line. Weighing in at only 4 pounds, the Kiboko is the lightest bag in its class. Designed with the needs of the photographer in mind, the bag allows all photo gear to be safely stored and comfortably carried but also quickly accessed. The Kiboko bag is deep enough to accommodate a pro level SLR camera body, as well as medium format cameras. The bag will also hold up to a 500mm and 600mm lens simultaneously. The Kiboko bag is made from high-tech Dimension Polyant VX-21, a unique and durable water-shedding material that is used on some of the fastest lightweight sailboats in the world. The outer materials are abrasion and tear resistant and the interior is padded using advanced materials, ensuring that the bag and your equipment will hold up regardless of the terrain you’re photographing.

Additional Gura products will be launching later in 2011.
